Before Movable Type: The Crosswinds Days
Hi!
This is Rob from the future talking. Greetings to you from
the evening of Saint Patrick's Day on the year of our Lord--or
somebody's Lord, anyway--2005.
Before I had the current, largely automated website, I had an
older website where everything was done by hand. It took a lot
of work, alone in a room by myself, designing and marking up a
website, so mostly that is what I wrote about in the 'updates'
section. This was back before 'blogs,' mind you. Back in 2001,
the hip thing to do was to get Yahoo! to list your
E/N--or 'Everything/Nothing'--site by filling it with jokes and
funny pictures. This I did, at least when I wasn't going to
high school or working at Hardee's or running props for the
school play or going on debate trips to Redneckistan, South
Dakota.
Anyway, that's why I still get emails about the
Really Dumb Questions list
Neal Carpenter, Bitsy and I drew up one day with after lunch
in ninth grade--because that was the kind of thing I put on
my quaint little intar-web site. I kept an 'updates' page,
but mostly just to inform returning visitors--both of whom
now have intar-web sites of their own--of
things I changed. But occasionally I wrote notes there just
for the sake of putting my thoughts down somewhere. Here are
a couple of the older 'updates' that I still worry I might
need someday:
3/6/01 -- Added a filler item.
If you have a minute and know some HTML, checking out Metababy is fun and enjoyable. Oh, and it lets you change it... unlike, say, this site, which relies on some guy from South Dakota to make modifications...
Mugu mugu?
4/16/01 -- Pointed the House to another gallery...
Well... not much this time. Crazy month, April. Digitracts will suck your bandwidth for you, if you have some free time. Oh, is there still some bandwidth not sucking up Macromedia enlightenment? ...oh... nice modem. I recommend hitting filepile.org to fix that. Caution: filepile is not always family friendly... but the music is usually good. There's a lot of Orbital and good jazz popping up there lately...
Unresolved old issues:
Image problems, e-mail,
message for Rowan. I'm really behind...
5/9/01 -- Added a couple of dumb questions as a pretense for updating.
Hello. I am still alive, I swear. It's just that I'm finishing up this whole silly "high school" thing, and it eats a big chunk out of my time. So, y'know, I have none. Sorry again!
For those who will understand this, I finally got that big decision out of the way. Everything will be impacted, details will be relayed along as events warrant.
Problems? They're probably not new. See images in old browsers, email headaches. Also, dreaded senior pictures.
5/22/01 -- Profiles alive, profiles alive.
So. Email is working again. Woo! So my primary account seems to be off the fritz and good to go again. This fall, it will almost certainly change to rmcmahon@iastate.edu, which will almost certainly be more reliable than the crosswinds addy. However, that addy will remain active as a forwarder, so if you are an interested party, don't worry about updating your address book.
Announcement for Rapid-area readers: So, I'll be having a little get-together at my house after graduation on Sunday (27 May, in case I don't post again for a while). Any and all are welcome to come; no gift requested or required. Show up, say hi, stay if you like. I'd love to have guests, but if I have none, all is still well. Directions are available on the stalker's page, I believe.
Continuing unresolutions: images in old browsers, the end of the world as I know it. Those with my number, give me a call sometime, please. I'm hell-bent on keeping in touch, really...
7/16/01 -- [Ed: Removed a bunch of crap about PNG.]
Rory's most recent iteration of the CHS Players page is still missing, and shows no signs of returning. It is out of his (and our) hands now, anyway. I did manage to nab a picture of the rat before it was cleared, though:
Now I just need a picture of Pookie...
That about wraps it up. I think I have some really old material
on a CD-R somewhere, but it's not that important. All the above
is from the old site, from my second website ever on
crosswinds.net, but everything from here on out is content from
Rapidfish.
Thanks for reading all the way back to the beginning! As a
reward, here is top-secret link
to Dreambook.
In seven years (as of this writing), the link to that page has
not changed, not even once.
